You may also be referred for additional MRI scans. This is usually the case when non-isolated CDH is suspected. If, in addition to CDH, your baby is suspected of having spina bifida or another defect of the central nervous system, the results of an MRI scan may provide your doctor with additional useful information. In the vast majority of babies with CDH, an ultrasound scan performed by an experienced doctor is sufficient to make the diagnosis and estimate the baby’s prognosis.
