CDH is most commonly diagnosed at the routine mid-pregnancy ultrasound scan (“anomaly scan”).
You may be referred for additional MRI scans.
The great majority of babies with CDH have so-called isolated defects. This means that the baby has no other anomalies.
As soon as CDH is picked up on a prenatal ultrasound scan, a perinatal specialist practitioner, with experience in the ultrasound evaluation of CDH, will measure the size of the lung in the chest cavity.
