Prenatal treatment

The balloon remains in the unborn baby’s airway during several weeks. Following that time, another procedure is performed around the 34th week of pregnancy to puncture and remove the balloon. The procedure is the same as during the placement of a balloon. The mother is usually given epidural anesthesia and the fetoscope is placed in the amniotic cavity. The balloon is punctured with a needle and removed from the airway.
